

Nearly Dan are much more than the average tribute band. Inspired by the music of Messrs Becker and Fagen the band have built up an avid following of Steely Dan fans all over the UK and Europe. Formed in 1997, the highly acclaimed ten piece band are now established as one of the UK’s most exciting live acts. Some of Frank Zappa’s most innovative compositions are his truly idiosyncratic works at the meeting point of jazz and rock, and the bizarre. Until now, few musicians have dared to attempt to pay tribute to the complex convoluted music of the man now seen as one of the most significant composers of the 20th century. But the 1998 Newark Festival asked guitarist John Etheridge (with his jazz/rock credentials firmly established through his years with Soft Machine) to create a group to perform this material… and the eight piece Zappatistas was born.
