“The music ain’t worth nothing if you can’t lay it on the public” proffered jazz legend, Louis Armstrong. In many ways, this statement has become the motivation for the Coventry Jazz Festival’s current committee.
With that, 2009 marks the city’s 11th Jazz Festival, which will see exciting performances from the likes of Maceo Parker, Theo Travis & Robert Fripp, The Don Weller Big Band, Portico Quartet and Jacqui Dankworth! There’ll also be appearances by the Neil Cowley Trio, Tim Garland Acoustic Trio and the Michael Roach Duo!
This year, organisers have also launched a free citywide exhibition of iconic black and white jazz photography taken over the last 10 years of the festival. The images, taken by some of Coventry and Warwickshire’s leading photographers, can be viewed at various venues, pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops across the city centre.
As always, the jazz festival is staged by a range of venues and landmarks across Coventry including The Belgrade Theatre, Coventry Cathedral, St Mary’s Guildhall, Biggin Hall, Esquires Coffee House (situated in Coventry Transport Museum) and Taylor John’s House.
We trust this line-up honours Armstrong’s sage words and that you’ll enjoy the 2009 Coventry Jazz Festival!
